In high school, Joe Young discovered his graphic design talents. After taking a couple design classes he realized that this was something he could do for a living. After high school, he was accepted into DAAP at the University of Cincinnati. He is a fourth year, Graphic Communication Design and Entrepreneurship Studies student.

Through his time in DAAP, Joe has been able to collect an array of experience through UC’s co-op program. He has been able to work on vastly different projects in his field.

One co-op was with Michelman, a chemical company located in Blue Ash. Here, Joe was in charge of designing all trade show graphics and managing their brand. An important task because 85% of Michelman’s marketing is through the 93 trade shows they attended yearly. He also worked for Crowne Equipment, where he was their Interaction Designer. He honed in on his UX skills for the software the company used for their forklifts.

Growing up, Joe did not know much about the entrepreneurial world. His father is an engineer, so when he was younger he thought he wanted to do, but soon realized that it did not fit his personality. His main criteria for a career? It has to make him happy.

As an UpTech Design Intern, Joe is looking forward to working with multiple startups and being around entrepreneurs. His passion for entrepreneurship was fueled after attending a Bearcat Launchpad info session. A couple weeks later, he decided to take part in a StartupWeekend at NKU and was hooked. The uncertainty of entrepreneurship is, surprisingly, one of Joe’s favorite aspects of the startup world. In his free time, Joe enjoys working on his own startup ideas, creating pitch decks, and helping other entrepreneurs.
